Farflung Overview

Casual Game - Farflung

Farflung is a free daily geography game — a quiz you answer on a map of the world. Each day’s expedition gives you five prompts, and for each one you pin a country before the clock runs out. Every prompt has several right answers, and rarer answers take you further: for a country where German is an official language, Germany counts, but Luxembourg carries you much further. After five pins you reach camp, see your total distance, discover the other answers, and share your result. Farflung is made by Steve and published by Farflung LLC; its official home is farflung.game. You can play in any browser with no account and no download.

Features

Five daily map prompts — the same for everyone that day, so you can compare distances with friends.

Multiple correct answers — rarer, less-obvious countries take you further; every prompt has at least one Farflung-rarity gem.

Timed pins on a world map — 60-second default clock, optional 30-second hard clock, borders and country-name hints you can turn off.

Practice round — one untimed prompt you can retry anytime; it does not use up your daily expedition.

Past week — the last seven days stay open to play (missed days don’t count toward your streak).

Camp results and sharing — total kilometres, answer rarities, and country facts after five pins.

Official rulings — if an answer should have counted, you can report it from camp; upheld claims are published on the rulings page.

Free in the browser — no account, no download; mobile app planned later.

How to Play

1

Open today’s expedition. Press Play Daily Expedition on farflung.game. Everyone gets the same five prompts that day.

2

Read the prompt. Think of a country that fits. You have 60 seconds per prompt (or 30 if you choose the shorter clock in Difficulty).

3

Place your pin. Tap the map to pin a country, tap again to move it, then press Drop pin. Scroll or pinch to zoom. If time runs out with a pin already on a country, it drops for you.

4

See how far you went. Correct answers add distance by rarity: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Elusive, or Farflung (the gem). A miss adds no distance.

5

Continue through five prompts. Press Next prompt after each reveal. After the fifth, choose On to camp for your total distance, every answer, and share options.

6

Come back tomorrow. A new expedition opens at midnight in your local time. You get one try per day; Past week keeps the last seven days open to play.

Tips

Think past the first country. The crowd’s first answer is usually Common; the second or third idea often goes further (Germany vs Luxembourg for official German).

Watch the clock. You get one answer per prompt — place the pin early enough to Drop it before time runs out.

Know territory rules. A pin on a territory counts for the country it belongs to (Greenland → Denmark, Guam → United States). Check the official rulings page for edge cases.

Use Difficulty carefully. Turning off borders or country names, or switching to 30 seconds, makes the map harder but doesn’t change the answer set.

Practice first. The untimed practice round is free and unlimited — use it to learn the map controls before the daily score.

Play every day for streaks. Missed days in Past week still playable, but they don’t grow your streak.

Why play Farflung?

Farflung turns a map quiz into a daily expedition: five timed prompts, several correct answers each, and a rarity system that rewards the country most players overlook. Everyone gets the same prompts, so you can compare distances with friends, and a fresh set every day keeps the map feeling new.

Summary

“Farflung is a free daily geography game where you pin a country for each of five timed map prompts. Rarer correct answers carry you further, and every expedition ends at camp with your total distance, answers and shareable result.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Farflung free?

Yes. Farflung is free to play in your browser with no account and no download. Farflung LLC publishes it at farflung.game.

Is farflung.game the official Farflung?

Yes. Farflung is published by Farflung LLC, and farflung.game is its official home. A site elsewhere that uses the name is not this game.

How do I play Farflung?

Open farflung.game, press Play Daily Expedition, read each prompt, pin a country on the map, and Drop pin. You have 60 seconds per prompt (or 30 with the shorter clock).

How many prompts are in a daily expedition?

Five. Each needs one pin. After the fifth you go to camp for your total distance and answers.

Why do some answers take me further?

Rarity. Correct answers are Common, Uncommon, Rare, Elusive, or Farflung. Less expected answers add more kilometres; every prompt has at least one Farflung-rarity gem.

When does a new daily expedition open?

At midnight in your local time. Everyone gets the same five prompts that day.

Can I play the daily game again?

One try per daily expedition. If you leave mid-game you can return to continue; the clock keeps running on an open prompt. For another go without a daily score, use the practice round. Past week keeps the last seven days open.

Is there an unlimited mode?

Not yet. The makers say they’re focusing on daily prompt quality; Past week covers the last seven days.

Will there be a mobile app?

Farflung says a mobile app is planned. Until then, play in a browser on phone or computer.
